Why I won't renew my direct TV NFL package

Right now I am not a happy camper! I was watching the game between the Atlanta Falcons and the Philadelphia Eagles. Since the Giants played last night they made the game a national game.
That is all fine with me but since I have the NFL Direct TV package I am forced to watch it on Fox. At halftime they switched the game to the Denver Broncos - San Francisco 49ers game. I can't even go to the 700 channels to watch the game as it is local and blocked out for me.

The only reason I have direct TV is for the football package. To me this is unacceptable and I won't stand for it. I am a season ticket holder and I want to see my team play when I can't go to the game. It is not much to ask especially when I have to pay 200.00 to see half the games.

Why they can't undo the local block on the NFL package stations is beyond me. I just bought a new LCD TV just for NFL games and here I am stuck watching a lousy NFC team and the Denver Broncos who I can't stand. I don't care if they make the playoffs as I don't give a hoot about AFC football teams.

This is just wrong to screw people that pay good money to watch football games that they pay for in the first place. I may even cancel my Direct tv altogther.

Well Christmas buying season has started. I am noticing a few items that are popular being sold. So far this year there have been a lot of orders for Kansas City Chiefs watches and Jimmie Johnson Hats.

I guess with Jimmie Johnson winning the Nextel Cup in Nascar he has made some new fans. There is still a lot of people ordering Dale Jr. stuff as well. His popularity will never fade.

You guys should know how much I hate preseason NFL games. Besides having to pay for these seats at meaningless games you also have the risk of injury to star players Portis sidelined by shoulder injury - NFL - Yahoo! Sports

I don't know when the NFL is going to stop these games but they should take a look at it. No one likes these games the players hate them and the fans hate them. Imagine the uproar if MLB started to charge full price for spring season games. I know that's another story and there is risk in spring training games also.

Most NFL coaches will tell you they can't get a good look at younger players trying to make the roster spot unless they are in game conditions I think this is just a bunch of bull. I watched a scrimmage last week on the NFL network where the Green Bay Packers played against themselves. This is done in practice conditions but who cares. It gets the job done when evaluating players in game conditions.

World Cup Soccer

I just got finished watching the World Cup soccer game between Italy and the United States and it was a good game. I missed the beginning of it and picked up the game as the USA players started to play short handed. In a strange way it reminded me of the 1980 Olympic hockey team. They were playing 10 guys against 9 and the underdog USA team still managed a tie over a more favored Italian team.

I normally don't watch Soccer that often but I could not turn my TV off the channel even though there was a Yankee game and a Nascar truck race on at the same time.

I never thought in my wildest dreams that I would be happy while watching soccer but I was.

March Madness is Here

It is that crazy time of the year again where the office pools are filling up and you hope to be that lucky person that gets a favorite to the Final Four. I am not that much of a college basketball fan myself but I must be in a few pools too many.

With the addition of the free March Madness pools on the internet I must be in over 30 and this makes rooting for a team confusing. In some instances I will be rooting against myself. I wonder how many times this is going to actually happen. Sometimes I think picking names out of a hat is the best system. I wrote all about it on the site here

Jimmie Johnson Las Vegas

So yesterday I am watching the Nascar race from Las Vegas and it hit me after Jimmie Johnson won that he appeared on an episode of the TV show "Vegas".

I am sure if you are a Nascar fan you have seen the Tony Stewart commercial where he builds something using Home Depot tools and he wins a race that next week. Well this is similar to that as what are the odds of Jimmie Johnson winning in Las Vegas and appear on a show of that name in the same year.

If I was a Nascar driver I would be trying to get a guest spot on CSI Miami since the last race is in Homestead Florida which is near Miami.

I am sure there are other TV shows that this could work on too.

Super Bowl Highlights

It is now two hours before the game and I am still on the fence as to who is going to win the big game. There will be highlights from the game no matter who wins. We will either see Jerome Bettis running through the Seattle defense to score on a one yard touchdown run or a Matt Hassleback touchdown pass to his tight end.

I think the game will be won by the team that has the least amount of turnovers, no big surprise there but either team can have this. Both teams are good at this as you would imagine, they wouldn't be in the Super Bowl.

I would like to see Joey Porter take a good shot at the Seattle tight end, other than that I don't care who wins. If I had to make a prediction I would say Pittsburgh 28 Seattle 21

Although I would rather talk about what a loser T.O is I have more important stuff to talk about. Last night I was watching Real Sports on HBO and they were talking about skateboarding. I didn't realize exactly how big it really was.

It was nice to see people like P Rod and what a Nice young man he is. T.O should take a lesson from him. Ok enough about T.O.

I realized that I could help these cool skateboarders get some cool stuff so I made a few pages on my site dedicated to skateboarders. I am sure that parents have no clue what to get their kids so I might help someone out.

Friday Night Football

Due to the hurricane the NFL moved the game between the Kansas City Chiefs and Miami Dolphins from Sunday to tonight. This unusual game time has made some interesting thoughts. The one I keep hearing is why don't the NFL always have a Friday night game anyway.

I know I would watch it and so would many fans. Sure the short week would hurt in planning for the game but the fans would love it. College teams play on friday nights and the ratings are good. The NFL should start playing games on Fridays.

The Sunday night games could be moved to fridays. I usually only watch half of the game on sunday night anyway. I get up too early for work on monday as I am sure a lot of fans do. Moving the games to friday night would solve this problem for me as I am off on Saturdays.

Nascar Championship Points

I really wasn't sure Nascar was doing the right thing when they changed the way the championship points system was changed. I am starting to like it though. I am typing this as I am watching the race from Richmond Virginia. I don't know who will be in or who will be out. This makes for better viewing but I think Nascar made a mistake by letting TNT show the race.

Most Nascar fans live in places that don't have cable TV or they just can't afford it. I guess that is the best way to say their fan base is not the rich and well off.

As of this writing it doesn't look like Jeff Gordon is not going to be in chase and I am sure that a lot of fans will be mad. Then again a lot of fans will love it.

We will just have to see what happens.

What can't be said about this poor guy that hasn't been said already. Every night espn has this guy as their first story, why is the real question. Not one person I know thinks that this is even a story. The only thing that espn is doing is making this guy out to be a good guy.

Do they have a motive behind it, I don't know or for that matter even care. This guy is way overpaid and he want's a new contract. I think the Philadelphia Eagles should release him and do like they did in the old days get the other owners to black ball him. Thats right all the owners! See how he feels when he is making no money at all. Let him go play his basketball in the minor leagues becuase that is what he wants to do. The whole situation is sad and ESPN makes it even sadder. Oh and on ESPN can you please stop showing poker on tv 24/7 believe it or not we are all not poker crazy. I would rather watch the lame ass dog show for pete's sake.

Well this is the hot topic today and I thought I would chime in my opinion. Why not after the Ny Times blasted this guy in the sports section I might as well have my say.

The first thing that comes into my head is he was framed. Huh framed yeah I said it

Baseball needs a scapegoat and the biggest sacrifice that they could give congress was a guy they really didnt want to put in the hall of fame anyway. I am not a fan of mr. Palmeiro but over the years he has gained some respect as a guy that has done his job everyday.

I think he should of returned the gold glove he won when he only played a handful of games there but that is another story.

Did he use steroids I don't think so and to tell you the truth I think most baseball fans feel the same way as me. Maybe he went to a doctor and is using some sort of cream like Deion Sanders admitted today when they asked him what he thought about this suspension.

Maybe the same drug is also in Viagra that set the test results back. Either way I think this was major league baseball's sacrafical lamb to make the goverment happy.

Whats Wrong with Jeff And Dale

Ok so the season is halk over and two of the tops stars in NASCAR are not in the top ten in points. For Dale we can say that the team changes have caused some of this. Why any team that did so well would make a drastic change like that is beyond logic.

So there was friction and Jr wanted to keep peace in the family. Thats all fine and dandy but this is a multi million dollar operation and if you can't work with family when there is money on the line then shame on him. Sorry Jr fans but thats the truth even if it is sad.

Jeff Gordon is another story altogether, Not much has changed except for the people lost in the plane crash which would devestate any team. I don't know I am at a loss as to why he isn't doing as well as expected.

Maybe today at Pocono it will all change around for them. I hope so because at this rate we might be watching Derrick Cope in the top ten in points and that is just scary.

Nascar on television

So now its NBC's turn to take over Nascar coverage and I am not sure who I like better NBC or Fox. I am kind of leaning towards Fox coverage as I like the cut away car that they use. It seems to me that they are better at explaining things to the average fan.

Sure it is annoying listening to Waltrip at times and those commercials that he is in for Toyota makes him out as an arrogant driver. I know I would never buy a Toyota but thats just me.

I like watching Benny Parsons on NBC as he has a genuine feel for what the drivers must be going through because he has experienced these problems himself over his long career.

It really is a toss up for me so as fans we can just take the good and the bad.
I also like Chris Meyers and I wish I had his job.

Atlanta Motor Speedway Damage

I was just reading about the tornado that caused over 40 million dollars in damage to the race track. The funny thing about it if there is something funny about it at all is if the fans were asked to donate a $1 each they would raise millions and probably extra. If the same thing happened to yankee stadium they would raise about 13 dollars.

Nascar fans would be happy to donate but baseball fans wouldnt give anything. Let the owners pay for it would be the battle cry.

Sure a few yankee fans would donate but after a baseball strike(that will never happen in Nascar) Fans are still mad at Major League Baseball.

Nascar Cafe in Las Vegas

One of the best places to visit if you are a Nascar fan is the Nascar Cafe in Las Vegas.A few weeks ago I had the pleasure of being in Las Vegas and while I needed a break from the slots I had wandered down to the sahara hotel and had lunch at the Nascar cafe and rode the Nascar roller coaster that is there.

After my lunch I took some pictures of all the cars. Some are hanging from the ceiling as the cafe is on the second flow directly above the bar.

Dale jr's car is actually hanging directly over his fathers car.

Nascar Owners Points

Is there anyone else that thinks that using Nascar owners points to start a race is dangerous. I know you are probably saying that is the best way to determine what car starts where when it comes to figuring out the starting line-up when rain puts a stop to qualifying for a race.

Just think about this for a second I will use names just as an example. Lets say Jimmie Johnson and Dale Earnhardt Jr are #1 and #2 in owners points. The last 10 races Dale's cars are not running well at all. While jimmies cars are doing well.

This week we go to a track like Dover where we haven't really raced our short track cars in about 5 weeks. Having Dale Jr in the front when starting this race could mean trouble for the cars starting behind him. Lets say his car does not handle well and he has to use his brakes more often than not on the first lap. This could mean a log jam and maybe a big accident wiping out a lot of drivers right behind him.

Those drivers would be taken from contention right away. Maybe even the best car in the race. Meanwhile Jimmie Johnson's car has broken away and is already getting to lap a few cars. Either way it spells trouble on a short track.

Is there a better way to determine the starting line up when rain falls on the Nascar parade I am not sure.

Danica Patrick Finishes fourth But Wins Our Heart

Well I just got finished watching the Indy 500 and I am amazed at how good Danica Patrick was. Not that I didn't expect her to do good but the perfomance she gave today really stood out and especially for a rookie. We can only imagine the amount of pressure she had by starting up front not to mention all the interview request.

She had her share of bad luck or you might say rookie mnistakes but she did such a good job it was a pleasure to watch her. She stalled the car in the pitts, she had a brush with another car that almost turned her David letterman/Bobby Rahal owned car sideways. She also had to conserve fuel in the last 20-30 laps. She lead a lap early on in the race and became the only woman to lead a lap in the Indy 500. That is no small task.

Once her team took a gamble and decided to stay out of the pits they knew she had to conserve fuel. Not only did she do that but with the help of a few caution flags she gained the lead once again. Her car was past with only a few laps to go as they were able to run their cars more fuel rich and use more horsepower.

After the race in which she finished fourth she really conducted herself well and even had a few laughs with the interviwer I am sure it has not sunk in yet what a great job she did.

Kentucky Derby

So here we are again the second Saturday in May and that tells me that it is time to place a wager on one of my favorite sports the Kentucky Derby.

In the United States this is one of the biggest days when it comes to sports betting. It is probably right behind the Super Bowl when it comes to money wagered.

Most of the people betting on the Derby don't make another wager at any other time of the year on horse racing. That is just crazy if you think about it. Since there are so many new comers putting wasted money into the win pools there are plenty of ways to make money when betting on the Kentucky derby.

This year there 20 entries, half of which will be about 20-1 if you bet $2 to win on every horse that is over 11-1 there is good odds that you will win money.

There are so many non horse players that make wagers that they can actually make the favorite in the race unbetable. The favorite has only won 2 or 3 times over the last 50 years. Betting a favorite or even a co favorite in this race is just plain crazy.

Look at the 3rd 4th and 5th favorites and place your wager across the board on them or choose just one.

I like playing the exotics like triples and superfectas and since this race has a lot of money wagered there is no such thing as a bad bet. Odds are I will be at Belmont park today to watch the race and after I place a bet on each race I will also place some superfecta quick picks for $1 on the derby.

If you like 3 or 4 horses box them in a triple and superfecta. If some long shots come in you could win big money.

Bristol Nascar Race

What a race that was in Bristol

Im happy for Kevin Harvick as he came back from a bunch of trouble to win the yellow flag prone race. He overcame a flood of trouble from pit road lug trouble to escaping a few accidents than were right in front of him.

The bad part of the race was Rusty Wallace being involved in an accident after leading most of the race. It was surely a heartbreaker to any Rusty fan that was watching at the track. Rusty is retiring and for many fans it will be their last time to see him.

It seems like if you were in the top ten today it was the place NOT to be. Tony Stewart did a great job saving his car after he went for a spin without hitting the wall.

Greg Biffle had a good car but some last minute pit strategy ruined his chances of winning the race. Jimmie Johnson and Jeff Gordon had little accidents that cost them the race as well.

The race was very exciting I just hate the commercials and seeing JR on everyone of them. I like Jr but it is just overload. First commercial is him for that Vitamin, next one is him and Waltrip for Dominos, then him for enterprise rent a car. I love Jr but enough already.

If one sponsor would run nascar commercial free I would name my first born after the product.

Nascar In Mexico

Nascar is in Mexico

What a great day for Mexico when the Nascars Busch series cars take the track. The story has been how a home town favorite Jorge Goeters made the pole for the big race.

This is sure to catapult fans of auto racing in Mexico. I am not so sure that the Nascar purist even like the idea of taking Nascar to Mexico. That I think is just to bad as Nascar's fan base needs to expand for the sport to get bigger. Hopefully in a few years there will be a toyota truck racing a Nascar race in Mexico. That would sure be a sight.

I will have to find out who my friend Pablo will be rooting for because he lives in Mexico and he follows soccer much more than he does Nascar. I think he will be rooting for Goeters to win the big race.

Daytona 500 Jeff Gordon Wins

Daytona 500 what a race that was

Who knew who was going to win the great American race the Daytona 500. The first part of the race was a little boring but man what a show we got at the end.

I am not shy when I tell you that I am a Jimmie Johnson fan but the more the race went on I felt myself rooting for Rusty Wallace and Mark Martin.

Poor Dale Jarret couldn't do much as his car didn't feel like running today. Bobby Labonte had some bad luck when his engine blew early.

The crash of the day involved Scott Wimmer who walked away from a horrible crash where he flipped quite a few times.

Dale Earnhardt Jr took the lead late but couldn't hold up as Jeff Gordon blew past him after Jimmie Johnson gave him a push drafting his bumper.

A late caution flag lead us to a green-white-checker flag restart and everyone was bumping each other. It was an exciting finish I just wish we could not have any commercials on television for the last 10 laps. Who cares if they are under caution I want to see the end without watching commercials. Who pays attention to them anyway.

Well spring season is her but the latest news is about football

The world of football received a shock when the linebacker from the world champion New Englad Patriots suffered a slight stroke.
We hope Teddy Bruschi gets well soon. He is probably one of the last of the throwback linebackers that we hard working people can relate to.

Most people don't know that he could have made a lot more money by signing a contract to play football with another team but he took less money to stay in New England.

Jose Canseco

So Jose Canseco's book comes out tomorrow and he is going to have an interview on 60 minutes tonight. The real question is anyone going to believe him? I doubt they will after all the stuff Ken Caminitti lied about. Baseball is introducing steroids testing because it is tired of all the bad publicity and I can't blame them.

Just because Jose says he did steroids and was so called blackballed by MLB owners does that give him the right to mention names of other players. I don't think so..

Just because Jose Canseco says it happened should we belive him over the other players that are mum on the subject like Mark McQuire. Once again I don't think so.

We would love to hear from others on their point of view on this and the whole steroids in baseball as well.

I can't belive that there is a 7 point spread in the game. Is New england Patriots really that much better than the Philadelphia Eagles. If you were to go to the Eagles message boards you would swear they were the favorite.

Come on and chime in on your selection we have a week to go before the big game. Or are you guys just waiting to see if Janet Jackson will show up at the Super Bowl this year.

NFL Playoffs

Well its another year and the NFL Playoffs are here. It is by far our favorite time of the year as spring training and Nascar seasons are coming up. Basketball is in full swing the only thing missing is hockey. It doesn't look like the NHL will play this year but thats a whole other story.

So with the football playoffs here what teams are you rooting for and who do you think will win the Super Bowl! I think it will be the Atlanta Falcons After all they are my favorite team.

We would love some feedback from some football fans.
